Anna moved into the small flat on Tuesday. The previous tenant had left in a hurry, and the landlord gave her two keys: one for the front door, one for the mailbox. She put them on a hook by the door and forgot about them.
On Friday night, Anna heard a soft click. She looked at the door. The lock was turning. Someone was using a key. She froze. The door opened, and a man stepped inside. He saw her and smiled. "Oh, sorry, wrong flat," he said, and left.
Anna's heart was pounding. She called the landlord. He said, "Don't worry, it was probably the old tenant. He still has a key. I'll change the lock tomorrow."
But the next morning, the landlord called back. His voice was strange. "Anna, I checked the records. The old tenant returned his key. I have it here. There are only two keys for that flat: yours and mine."
Anna felt cold. She looked at the hook. Two keys were still there. She thought about the man's face. He had not looked confused. He had looked like he knew exactly where he was.
That night, she locked the door and put a chair under the handle. She lay in bed, listening. At 2:33 AM, she heard the click again. The chair moved slightly. Someone pushed the door. Then, a whisper through the crack: "I'll come back when you're ready."
Anna didn't sleep. In the morning, she called her friend Mark. He came over and checked everything. The locks were fine. No one was in the flat. Mark laughed. "You're just nervous. New place, new life. Relax."
But Anna couldn't relax. She noticed something odd. The keys on the hook were not in the same order. She always put the front door key first. Now, the mailbox key was first. Someone had touched them.
She decided to stay with Mark for a few days. When she returned, she found a small note on the kitchen table. It said: "I made a copy. See you soon."
Anna called the police. They searched the building, but found nothing. The officer said, "It's probably a prank. But change your locks, just in case."
She changed the locks. She felt safe again. A week passed. Then, one evening, she heard the click. The new lock turned. The door opened. The same man stood there. He held up a shiny new key. "You changed the locks," he said. "But I can always make another copy."
He stepped back and closed the door. Anna stood frozen. She heard his footsteps fade down the hall. Then, silence. She looked at the hook. Two keys. But now, there were three.

❓ FAQ
Выпишите новые фразы (например, «in a hurry», «just in case») и составьте с ними собственные предложения о вашей жизни.
